Elections 2011: Mark Figetakis is Running For Bath Township Trustee

Figetakis says first priority will be a civic community center.

Mark Figetakis knows what he'll do on Day One if elected as a Bath Township Trustee: "All the surrounding communities have a civic center, there's no reason Bath shouldn't have one," Figetakis, 78 said.

"There's a major need," he said. "Bath has 20-30 clubs and organizations that could make use of the center as a meeting place."

Figetakis said the center could be built on township-owned land and its construction and operation funded through the township budget. "There would be no need for new taxes."

"Bath has general fund money and some money would come from inheritance tax. "If Richfield can afford a community center certainly Bath can."

Figetakis also would like to see Bath Towship to have its own library branch.

With more than 40 years experience in the restaurant industry, Figetakis said his experience with budgeting and personnel would be valuable -- and transferrable -- to government.

I leaned all areas of budgeting and making hard decisions regarding personnel – all aspects of payroll and personnel, especially planning for the future.

He said he didn't intend to run for office, until he noticed that incumbent Bath Trustee Elaina Goodrich was running unopposed. "This is not something I planned six months ago. I think it is very important people have a choice. In our democratic system there should always be opposition."

Figetakis has lived in Bath since 1970. He has an adult son who attended Old Trail School.
