Bonnebrook Road to Open Today

Temporary road will allow traffic until permanent pavement is laid down.

The long-awaited reopening of Bonnebrook Road in Bath Township takes place this afternoon.

The stretch of road south of Bath Road and north of South Walnut Ridge is expected to be open for traffic after 4 p.m., a township media release said.

A temporary pavement has been laid down. Lanes will be closed at some point in the spring when permanent pavement is expected to be installed.

The road was closed after a culvert buried deep beneath Bonnebrook Road was washed out following a torrential rainstorm July 19. The early-morning storm dumped 5½ inches of water on the Bath Township area in a short period.

The washout occurred on the east side of Bonnebrook, about 400 feet south of its intersection with West Bath Road. When the earth above the old culvert gave way, it created a 15- to 16-foot deep drop-off just feet from a guardrail running alongside the road.

The culvert replacement project cost $74,611.
