Bath Township Administrator Applicants: Sharon Troike

FB Patch: Why do you want to be Bath Township Administrator?

Troike: I have thoroughly enjoyed my position as the township Fiscal Officer.  It has given me the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of the role and responsibilities of township government, the budgetary process, and the issues – historically and currently – our township faces. 

We have an amazing group of department heads, men of strong leadership and integrity, and it would be a privilege to serve with them more closely.

I can think of no other community where I would want to live than Bath, and I want to be a part of the township’s continued success going forward.  I am ready for the challenge.

FB Patch: What changes do you want to make/new ideas do you want to implement in Bath?

Troike: A township Administrator serves at the pleasure of the Board of Trustees and functions as the central source of information for trustees about township activities, both at the local and state level.  Any proposed changes in the township are only what is allowable under the Ohio Revised Code and voted by the Trustees.

In terms of internal, day-to-day operations, I think it would be unwise to walk into the position of township Administrator with a laundry list of changes.  My approach would be to take time to settle in to the job, allow the residents and the township staff to become accustomed to me in this role, and vice versa.  After a period of adjustment, where I saw the need for changes and/or had fresh ideas, I would move forward with the support of our Trustees.

FB Patch: Do you live in Bath Township?  If not, do you plan to relocate?

Troike: Yes, I am a 27-year resident of Bath Township.

FB Patch: Why are you qualified for this position?

Troike: I am currently serving in my second term as Fiscal Officer for the township.  As I stated previously, this position has given me the opportunity to gain an in-depth knowledge of township government, the budgetary process (which is the responsibility of the Administrator), and the issues our township has faced in the past, and currently faces.  I have assisted the current Administrator and Department Heads in preparing the annual budget for the last five budgetary cycles. 

I have experienced the permanent revenue cuts by the State and understand how they affect our township now, and in the future, as these are not a one-time loss, but rather, will continue with no reinstatement of these funds.   It is a challenging time for townships and municipalities, and I believe I am prepared to address these issues.

Because I have lived in Bath for 27 years, I know and love this community.  I am committed to utilizing our residents’ tax dollars efficiently and effectively to provide the best services and living conditions possible.

FB Patch: What is your favorite season and why?

Troike: My favorite season, by far, is summer.  I love being outside in the fresh air to get exercise or just lounge around, the longer days of sunlight, leaving the windows open in the house, the plethora of fresh fruits and vegetables available, and with my limited green thumb, digging in the dirt!
