The bid was significantly lower than the city engineer's estimate of $1.35 million, according to Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten.

Portions of five streets are are expected to be resurfaced or get major renovations:

• Barrington Road

• North Miller Road

• Caladonia Road. Work there will include a waterline replacement and storm sewers.

• Pembroke Road

• Brunsdorph Road

Staten said Barrington and Caladonia, which are now concrete streets, will remain concrete with curbs and gutters.

The city bid the projects two ways -- with the materials on those streets remaining the same, or with an asphalt surface, like most other roads have.

But Karvo Paving's price on the all-asphalt bid was only $2,000 less than retaining the concrete, so city officials said the roads will remain concrete.

In addition, the city has budgeted for Smith Road to be renovated after a witerline project is finished this year. The project will include extending sidewalks and installing storm sewers, but won't be bid until the waterline work is done.

City Council is expected Monday to accept Karvo's bid for the work.

"This company performed the construction of the 2011 street repair project and did an excellent job," Staten said in a memo to council.

The city is expected to host a residents' meeting this spring to talk about all the road projects.
