2 Projects Planned on Smith Road

Construction to start soon on waterline, sewer work

Fairlawn is gearing to start a curb and sewer project on Smith Road this summer -- as soon as Akron finishes installing a waterline.

Deputy Service Director Ernie Staten said that once the water project is done, Fairlawn will move ahead with its own work.

"Right now, Smith Road has a ditch," Staten said. "We've always wanted to enclose it."

The waterline work is slated between Owosso Avenue and Lake-of-the-Woods Boulevard. Fairlawn's will run from Lake-of-the-Woods to the city limits.

City Council is set to accept a bid from Tri Mor Corp. for $174,080 to handle the work, which is to include basic curbs and gutters and a storm sewer system.

Staten said Akron was waiting for school to get out for the summer before starting its project. He said Fairlawn hopes to have its job done before school resumes in the fall.
