Two of Eight Copley Shooting Victims Were High School Students

One of the eight was even younger, according to published reports. Prayer vigil is tonight.

Schools Superintendent Brian Poe confirmed today that two of the eight killed in a Copley Township shooting rampage are high school students.

After a domestic dispute Sunday morning, neighborhood of Copley Township. The man fled the home to chase someone, shooting and killing two others before he was shot and killed by police.  An additional victim, a woman, remains hospitalized in an intensive care unit, Copley police said.

"What I can say right now is that two students, who attended Copley High School, are among the victims," Poe said. "The 11-year-old was not our student."

Several published reports have indicated that one of the victims was an 11-year-old child. Those reports have not been confirmed by police.

Copley Fairlawn administrators and counselors will meet early tomorrow and counselors will be available later in the day.

"Our doors will be open," Poe said.

The shooting suspect is among the dead. According to Police Chief Michael Mier, the suspect was chased along Schocalog Road and was shot dead by police in what was described by police as a confrontation. 

Akron and Copley police investigators are processing four crime scenes -- two on Schocalog and two on Goodenough -- into the evening. Officers have closed the neighborhood to traffic.

Police will hold a news conference at noon Monday at Copley Community Center. 

Fairlawn-Bath Patch will post the high school counseling schedule as soon as it becomes available.

A prayer vigil will be held at Copley Community Park at 7:30 tonight, 3232 Copley Rd.

Copley-Fairlawn students are scheduled to begin classes Aug. 25.
