Two Local Intersections Make Top 100 for Crashes

Worst corners for crashes aren't in Fairlawn or Bath, but a few rank on Summit County list

An intersection in Bath and one in Fairlawn rank among the 100 worst for crashes in Summit County, according to a recently released study.

The report, done by the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study, collected crash statistics from 2010 to 2012 to identify the riskiest streets and intersections for drivers in the county.

A total of 262 intersections made the list.

Ranking 68 was Cleveland-Massillon Road at the I-77 northbound exit ramp, with 32 crashes reported over a three-year period.

That intersection sees 18,120 vehicles a day.

At 78 is the intersection of Medina Road (Route 18) and Springside Drive in Bath and Copley. There were 60 crashes there,

The Medina Road/West Market Street/Cleveland-Massillon corner ranked 143rd on the list. The area touches Fairlawn, Bath and Copley.

And the corner of Yellow Creek Road and Revere Road in Bath was ranked at 205.

A street in Fairlawn also made the list of worst sections of road to drive on based on crashes.

Various statistics were used to calculate the rankings, including average daily traffic and the severity of the accidents.

The AMATS study is intended to draw attention to potentially unsafe roadways likely in need of redesign, and the study may be used by a community as a first step in the process of applying for federal Highway Safety Program funding.
