Two Fairlawn Retailers Report Employee Thefts

The following information was supplied by the Fairlawn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Two area retailers have terminated and banned employees suspected of stealing, according to reports:

  • A manager at called police at 6:08 p.m. Dec. 9 to report a theft by a 19-year-old employee who lives in Norton. A loss prevention agent said he observed via video surveillance the woman going through several lockers in the employee locker room. He said she removed $100 in cash from a fellow employee’s locker, then $20 from a locker that was staged by loss prevention. Fairlawn Police arrested the woman, who admitted to removing a total of $145 from other employee lockers on two different occasions. She was processed in a police car and released with a summons to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft charge. The stolen money was returned to its owners. Bed, Bath & Beyond terminated the employee and banned her from the store indefinitely.
  • A loss prevention agent called police at 11:06 p.m. Dec. 12 to report a theft suspect in custody – an 18-year-old salesperson at the store. The agent said the employee, an Akron resident, selected two bracelets with a combined value of $56 and a necklace valued at $15 while she working. The agent watched on video surveillance as the woman removed the tags and hid the necklace and one of the bracelets in her purse and up her sleeve, then put the other bracelet onto her wrist. The agent stopped the employee and recovered the merchandise. Fairlawn Police arrested the woman, who admitted the theft, and released her with a summons to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft charge. Macy’s banned the woman from entering any of its stores for three years.
