Trio Gets Max Sentence for Robbery, Assault of Bath Township Man

Information provided by the Summit County Prosecutor.

The three men found guilty of beating and robbing a disabled Bath Township man last June were given the maximum prison sentence of 20 years on Wednesday.

Summit County Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh said Judge Lynne Callahan gave Madrid Asefi, 22, of Santee Avenue in Akron; Justin Hill, 19, of Juno Place in Bedford Heights; and Michael Louthian, 28, of Third Street in Barberton 20 years each.

Asefi, Hill and Louthian previously pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies.

Background:

Home health aide Samantha Furman was helping a 72-year-old Bath man recover from brain surgery. She told Louthian, who was her ex-boyfriend, where the man had cash, guns and TVs in his home.

On June 26, a woman named Christine Marshall drove Louthian, Hill and Asefi to the man's house and waited in the truck while they robbed the residence. When the three men broke in, the victim woke up and yelled for them to leave his house. The trio left, but decided they didn't want to leave empty-handed, so they broke back in through a different entrance.

Once inside, the men knocked the victim out of his wheel chair and proceeded to kick and stomp his head. They ransacked the home, stealing guns, money, TVs and more.

The man was found two days later by a meals-on-wheels worker. Several surgeries have been performed as a result of the attack, and the man will spend the rest of his life in assisted living.

Furman pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and robbery. Marshall pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary. Judge Callahan will sentence Furman and Marshall March 14 at 1:30 p.m

Bath Township police Chief Michael McNeely called the case sad, but said his detectives did an excellent job getting the information together.

"They took three to four months putting the case together," McNeely said. "We're happy they were given the maximum sentence and we applaud Judge Callahan and the Summit County Prosecutor for their efforts."
