Traffic Stops Lead to Bigger Trouble for 2 People: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Fairlawn and Bath police departments

Two drivers who got stopped for one offense got slammed with another — larger — violation, according to police reports.

In Bath, police stopped a woman on Medina Road about 3:20 p.m. Sept. 8 after someone reported she had struck a child.

There turned out to be no cause for concern about hitting someone, but other causes for concern.

The woman had a suspended license, and the three kids in her car weren't properly restrained, a report said.

Also, her car had a temporary tag that had been reported stolen in Akron.

The woman was taken to jail and the children released to family members.

In the other incident, Fairlawn police stopped a man for weaving on I-77 just before midnight Sept. 7.

Again, weaving was the least of his worries. He, too, had a suspended license, and when police inventoried his vehicle, they found an unloaded .380 handgun in a shoebox in the trunk.

There was ammunition next to it, a report said.

There was also a credit card belonging to someone else in the glove box.

The man said he had no knowledge of the gun, although police said it was purchased in his sister's name.
