An early morning traffic stop by a officer resulted in the arrests of three people on charges ranging from drunken driving to possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 2:15 a.m. Dec. 31, an officer stopped a 2004 Pontiac in the 1800 block of Orchard Drive after seeing the motorist travel outside marked lanes and making a wide turn.
The officer said he detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle and that the 52-year-old male driver’s speech was slurred.
“Upon questioning, he stated he had not been drinking this evening,” the officer wrote. The driver failed standardized field sobriety tests and was arrested for drunken driving.
Police discovered that one of two female passengers, 35, had an active warrant through Fairlawn Police, so she was arrested.
During a vehicle inventory, police found a small glass pipe with burn marks and residue in the seat of another female passenger, 26. She was arrested, processed and released with a summons to appear in court on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
The other woman and the male driver were taken to the police department for processing. The woman was released to Fairlawn police. The man was given a breath test, which registered blood alcohol content of .142.
