A report said the suspect, described as a tall black man missing his left arm, went into Subway about 7 p.m. and bought a 50-cent cookie with a $20 bill.

When the clerk gave him his change, he started asking for the bills in various denominations, trying to confuse her.

Another employee saw what was going on and took the money out of the clerk's hands. The customer then reached over the counter, grabbed the cash and fled.

Police contacted Akron Metro and asked them to be on the lookout for a man matching the suspect's description on a bus.

Sure enough, the man was spotted. Akron police detained him when he got off until Fairlawn officers arrived to arrest him.

About $29 in his wallet was confiscated as evidence.
