Police Blotter: Man Arrested in Bath After Running Out of Gas

The following information was supplied by the Bath Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A motorist who ran out of gas on the southbound ramp of Interstate 77 at Ghent Road ended up in handcuffs instead of getting a ride to a gas station, according to .

A Bath officer responded to a call at 12:50 a.m. Oct. 30 about three men waving down cars for help. One of the men, a 29-year-old, told the officer they had run out of gas and didn’t know where they were. He asked for a ride to a gas station while his two companions waited with the van.

The officer ran a background check on the man and discovered an active felony warrant issued two days earlier by the Akron Police Department for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

According to Akron Police reports, the man had borrowed the van on Aug. 27 and had yet to return it to its owner. The man was arrested, handcuffed and driven to I-77 and Copley Road for pick-up by Akron police.

The van was left on the side of the interstate, the keys were given to the man’s passengers and the man’s wife and mother were notified to have it removed in the morning.
