Note Confirms Scam, But Too Late: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Bath Township Police Department

A resident went to Bath police Oct. 5 after falling victim to a Craigslist scam, a report said.

The man told police he was trying to rent a house in Akron he'd seen advertised on the popular website.

Using Green Dot Money Pack check cards, he paid a $400 security deposit, then $400 for the first month's rent.

The owner tried to get him to pay another $400 for damaged, but he refused.

When the man visited the house, he found a sign on the door that confirmed his suspicions — and that he wasn't the first victim.

It said: "This house is not for rent. It's a scam."

Police are investigating.
