Man Needs Stitches after Petting 'Friendly' Dog: Police Blotter

A man went to police May 1 after a dog bite required seven stitches.

The victim told police he was walking on the trail behind St. Edward nursing home April 30 when he encountered a man walking two dogs.

He said the asked the dog owner if the rottweiler was friendly, and the owner said he was.

The man reached to pet the pup, who bit the palm of his hand.

The owner offered to pay the hospital bill, but the victim said at the time, he was more concerned about getting his hand treated than who would pay for it.

But he became concerned afterward about whether the dog had had all his shots.

Police said they would try to locate the dog owner.

Shoplifter Loads Up

Police arrested a woman May 3 who was found with $1,274 worth of clothing concealed in her purse and a shopping bag.

Security at Macy's watched the woman take merchandise into a fitting room and come out with nothing in her hands.

She gathered up more items to take to the fitting room and again emerged without anything visible, a report said.

Theft from Car

A quick trip into Summit Mall wasn't quick enough to leave his car doors unlocked, a man found.

The victim told police he went into the mall from 5:46 to 6 p.m. May 2 and returned to find his briefcase containing a laptop computer and three books of checks missing.
