'Government Agent' Flashes Badge; Panhandler Cited: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Bath Township Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Employees at the Courtyard Inn called police Aug. 1 after a strange situation unfolded there.

A Bath Township Police report said a man was given a reduced rate on a room July 28 after flashing a badge and saying he worked for the government.

The next day, a man claiming to be him called and demanded a refund because he never receive a wake-up call.

The hotel refunded the entire amount on his credit card.

But employees then noticed the address and e-mail provided by the caller did match the man who stayed.

An investigation is continuing.

No, Not Here

A man was cited Aug. 5 after a North Shore Drive resident reported that he was asking for money and selling magazines door-to-door.

The resident said the man claimed to be in rehab, but the solicitor denied saying that.

He was cited, though, for illegal panhandling. Two other people doing the same thing in the area were warned to leave.
