Fairlawn Police Blotter: Trading Cards, Heroin Don't Mix

Trio of warrant arrests; misdemeanor arrests; broken windows.

Benjamin H. Bishop of the 1100 block of Gardner Blvd. was arrested on charges of drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug abuse instruments and theft on April 19.

It all started with a theft. Police said Bishop left the Giant Eagle store on West Market Street with sports trading cards valued at $78.74 without paying.

After being apprehended by security at the store, police also found 2 grams of heroin, a syringe and a spoon, police said. Bishop was taken to Summit County Jail.

Arrest on warrants

• Belinda West of Wakefield Avenue in Cleveland was arrested in Cleveland and taken to Fairlawn police April 22 on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of misrepresenting identity in Fairlawn. West was taken to Summit County jail and booked on the warrant.

• Terrill A Watson of Wilbur Avenue in Akron was arrested April 21 on a warrant for failure to pay restitution on a charge of passing a bad check. He was taken to Summit County Jail to be booked.

• Abdulhadi TJ Al-Garawi was arrested by Springfield Township Police on a failure to appear warrant on April 17. Fairlawn police picked up Al-Garawi and took him to Summit County Jail.

Misdemeanor theft

 • Police said Candace Grundy and Desaree Battles were caught shoplifting $248.90 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 3750 W. Market St., on April 19. Grundy was processed at the scene and issued a summons to appear in court; Battles was taken to Fairlawn Police Department and released into the custody of her aunt.

• Ashley Boykin and Gage H. Jones of Akron were arrested on misdemeanor theft charges from stores on the 3200 block of West Market Street on April 16. Boykin was released at the scene; Jones was processed at the Fairlawn Police Department and released to his sister.

 Theft, misuse of credit cards

 • A Miller Road resident said on April 10 he lost a nylon bag at Croghen Park containing $60 in cash, credit and debit cards and a cell phone valued at $400. He discovered that charges had been made on his credit and debit cards at a Circle K store on Copley Road and that he spoke to two individuals who had his cell phone. He told police he has canceled the cards. 

 Criminal Damaging           

 • A resident on the 3800 block of Rosemont Boulevard identified to police a man the resident saw throwing rocks at his home. Police found broken panes on two windows on the condo. Two witnesses across the hall from the victim confirmed the identity of the suspect in the incident.
