Fairlawn Police Blotter: Man Loses Paycheck in Good Deed; a Ford Explorer Sundae and More

The following arrest information was supplied by the Fairlawn Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Theft: A man was robbed of his paycheck by a panhandler at about 7 p.m. May 27. The victim told police that he was approached by a man outside the front doors of just after he had cashed his check inside the store.  The man asked for money; the victim told police he refused, then drove his car to Earth Fare across West Market Street.

At , the victim said he was approached by the same man, who asked for money again.  The victim told police he took out a bundle of bills, $416 in all, and gave the man $1. According to the police report, the victim was robbed when the panhandler took the wad of bills instead of shaking hands. The panhandler was last seen getting into an older Nissan Sentra in the parking lot, which speeded out of the parking lot at the Shops of Fairlawn.

Fairlawn Police later determined that the victim actually drove the panhandler to Earth Fare in his own car. Officers observed them leaving the Walmart parking lot together on the store security camera.  When questioned, the man told police he didn't want to admit giving the panhandler a ride, for fear of being held "responsible" for the robbery.
