Fairlawn Police Blotter: Don't Water the Lawn Where You Shop

Man arrested for relieving himself on lawn near shopping center.

  • Wendell E. Elie,  46, of Akron, was arrested for public indecency at 9:57 a.m. May 7 after he was noticed urinating at the entrance to Rosemont Commons on South Cleveland Massillon Road. He was released with a summons. Police took a photo of the soiled grass into evidence. 
  • Cherie Melby, of Akron was cited with a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to a companion animal after Fairlawn police discovered her small dog in a closed car in the ’s parking lot on May 11 at 4:30 p.m. Police said the animal was confined to the car without food our water. Police said the animal did not appear to be harmed.

 

Police said the dog was in the car for approximate one hour fifteen minutes.

According to the police report, Melby told police, “I thought I had left the sunroof open, but I guess I forgot."

  • Witnesses watched the car for approx 20 minutes before calling police. Officers arrived to find the car doors unlocked, and moved the animal to a patrol car. After the woman was charged she was released and her pet was returned to her.
