Fairlawn Man Leaves Dog in Car for Two Hours on 92-Degree Day

A parking lot security guard found a dog left in a car on Aug. 3 around 5 p.m., according to a report.

The guard waited by the car for 15 minutes, and when the owner didn't come out she called police, the report said. It was 92 degrees on Aug. 3, according to the National Weather Service.

When the police officer arrived, he noted the two front windows were left open an inch and a half and there were two metal bowls on the floor: one filled with food, the other with "2 inches of water."

The officer opened the locked door and got the dog to come into his cruiser while he waited for the owner.

An hour later, the Fairlawn man came out and told police he was only in the mall for an hour and a half, but the time was now 7:05 p.m., the report said. Police charged the man with animal cruelty.
