Employee Rings Up Gift Cards, and Gives them to Himself: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Fairlawn Police Department

 

Fairlawn police arrested an employee at Walmart April 19 after he was caught allegedly ringing up gift cards, then pocketing the cards without putting any cash in the register.

A report said store security started reviewing surveillance video after the man's cash drawer came up $560 short April 16 and $505 short the next day.

A report said the tape showed the employee ringing up gift cards, but not placing money in the cash drawer. 

By the time they interviewed the man, another two gift cards totalling $1,011 were missing, the report said.

The man admitted to the thefts, and also said he had stolen about $20 in food two weeks earlier, bringing the total loss to $2,097.

He was charged with theft.
