Drunken Driver Blamed for Three-Car Accident in Bath

The following information was supplied by the Bath Township Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Fairlawn man has been charged with drunken driving after police say he caused a three-car accident just after 6 p.m. Monday on Ghent Road in Bath near the I-77 interchange.

report the suspect, driving a 2006 Chevy southbound on Ghent Road, ran into the rear of a vehicle stopped at the traffic light at the northbound ramp to I-77.

The Chevy, which was severely damaged, hit the rear of a 2008 Honda 4S driven by a Fairlawn woman, which then struck the rear of a 2009 Lexus RX SUV driven by a Bath man.

Police report the "at-fault driver had an odor of an alcoholic beverage … as well as slurred speech and red glossy eyes.” The driver admitted to drinking two beers.

The man, a 53-year-old Corunna Avenue resident, had a head injury so police called a EMS squad. The driver refused to be taken to a hospital.

The man told police he had a right eye injury from a earlier incident and has bad knees, so he would be unable to perform field sobriety tests. Poilce report they gave the man a portable breath test that showed a blood alcohol concentration of .283. Ohio's limit for drivers is 08.

The man was arrested and taken to the Bath police station for processing. While there, police report, he took a breath chemical test which showed a .268 BAC.

Before the man was released to his wife, he was issued citations for drunken driving and failure to maintain assured clear distance.
