Crooks 'Scoping Out Neighborhoods,' Says Bath Police Chief

The police department has received reports about men posing as detectives and utility workers are trying to gain entry into upscale homes.

After reports about two fake detectives and a phony utility worker knocking on homes in Bath Township, residents are on alert and the police chief believes criminals are looking for opportunities to break into homes.

"What we believe is, this is just people scoping out the neighborhood looking for an opportunity to commit a crime," Police Chief Mike McNeely told our partners at NewsNet5.com.

Two white men flashed fake badges after knocking on the door of a Roberts Ridge home in an upscale neighborhood and asked a 12-year-old girl if her dad was home, according to a June 21 police report.

One male was described as short, chubby, balding and in his 40s. The second male had gray hair, glasses and in his 50s. The girl said they were rude and drove away in gray sedan in poor condition.

A couple days later, a man pretending to be a utility worker knocked on the front door of a separate home on Bonnebrooke Drive and tried to gain entry. The homeowner, 23-year-old Natalie Millar, told our partners at News Channel 5 she saw the man jiggling the front door and trying to get inside of her parent's house.

She described him as a while male with a stocky build, in his 30s, wearing a black hat, black jacket and black jeans.
