'Booster Bag' Used By Shoplifter at Dillard's

Dillard’s at has banned two customers indefinitely after having them arrested by for shoplifting.

  • Just after noon on Dec. 24, a police officer working uniformed security at Dillard’s was notified of shoplifter by a store security camera operator who observed a woman concealing two pair of Levi’s jeans with a combined value of $122 in her purse. The off-duty officer stopped the suspect as she “was attempting to get rid of the merchandise.” Police said the Uniontown woman, 20, was using a “booster bag,” which they described as “a black handbag which had been converted to defeat security sensors.” The woman admitted to the thefts after she was arrested. She was released with a summons to appear in court on charges of theft and possession of criminal tools, and the booster bag was taken as evidence by police.
  • A deputy from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office who was working uniformed security at Dillard’s contacted police at 9:19 p.m. on Dec. 23 to report a shoplifter in custody. The deputy had been notified by a Dillard’s security camera operator who saw a man select a Polo hat valued at $39.50, place it inside a shopping bag and exit the store into the mall concourse. The deputy stopped the 18-year-old Akron man and escorted him to the store’s customer service area. Fairlawn Police arrested the man and released him with a summons to appear in court on a misdemeanor theft charge.
