Bath Township Trustees OK Fire Truck Purchase

New tanker vehicle can hold 2,000 gallons of water when full.

on Tuesday approved spending $351,636 for a mobile tank vehicle, called a fire tender, that will carry 2,000 gallons of water.  said the money to be spent includes $220,000 raised by the Bath Fire Department Inc., at its annual Horse Show.

Paulett showed council members pictures of the current fire tender, which is rusted and has required $40,000 in repairs, as well as a drawing of the new truck. He said the replacement vehicle, like its predecessor, is expected to last about 20 years.

"We've been planning and saving for the replacement since we got the old one," Paulett said.

Trustee said that each fire truck is specifically designed to meet the demands of its department.  The new one has an engine that is strong enough to climb steep hills found in some areas of the township.

The new tender also carries more water than the previous truck, but is designed so that it fits into the township garage "with a few inches to spare," Paulett said.

Delivery is scheduled for Nov. 1 to allow the department to train personnel to use it before snow covers the roads.
