Bath Township Police Officer is Detective of the Year

Award is made to police officers who investigate crimes against children.

Vito Sinopoli is being honored with this year's Lt. John “Ed” Duvall, Jr. Detective of the Year Award.

The 26-year veteran of the Bath Township Police Department was nominated by Bath Chief Michael McNeely, who described Sinopoli's work in a 17-month sexual assault investigation of two children by a family member.

The thoroughness of the investigation resulted in the offender entering negotiated no contest pleas to attempted rape and three counts of gross sexual imposition.  He was sentenced to a period of incarceration that exceeds his life expectancy.

The Duvall award honors the memory of the late Lt. John "Ed" Duvall, who dedicated himself to investigations of child abuse cases while with the Akron Police Department.

The award was presented to Sinopoli Wednesday during a ceremony at Summit County Children's Services.
