Bath Township Man Receives Fraudulent Call, Computer Gets Hacked

Information provided by the Bath Township Police Department.

 

On Jan. 20, a Briarhill Drive man got a call from someone who claimed to work for "Windows Service Center," that said he needed to download a program to fix his computer, said.

The caller wanted to get into the man's computer using a remote access program, and said he wanted to fix several errors. Police said the victim downloaded the program and watched the caller snoop around his computer.

Later the victim realized this was a scam and called police. He was concerned his accounts may have been accessed, but as of Jan. 20, they had not, police said.

Police encouraged the victim to put flags on his bank and credit card accounts.
