Bath Police Following Leads on Robbery, Abduction Attempt

Tips have come in on both crimes

Bath police officers are pursuing several leads in two major recent cases -- the attempted abduction of a woman June 3 and the armed robbery of the Colonial Pharmacy June 6.

Police Chief Michael McNeely said residents have called in several tips on the suspect in the abduction.

"We're following up on some information developed from citizens calling," he said.

In that incident, a woman was walking her dog at Olentangy and Haskell about 7:30 p.m. when a man slowed down and yelled "Get in the van." He then got of the vehicle, pointed at it and yelled the order again.

The woman ran away.

The suspect was a white man between 35 and 45, tall with a medium build and had a light growth of facial hair.

The vehicle was a dull black panel van with no side windows and older tires.

Anyone with information can contact Detective Daniel A. Lance, dlance@bathtownship.org or 330-666-3736.

In the robbery, two men with handguns walked into the store about 6:45 p.m. One jumped over the counter and forced the pharmacist to the floor, holding her at gunpoint while the second man demanded a clerk open a locked cabinet and fill a bag with narcotics, then empty the cash register.

The suspects then ordered the employees to walk to the front of the store with their hands in the air, while they fled out a rear door.

McNeely is confident the drug store robbers will be caught.

"If they are addicts, they will rob again, and at some point, they will leave behind more information or get caught in the act," he said.

He said pharmacies in the area have a network by which they communicate about crimes like this one, and are on the lookout for another attempt.

McNeely said that while an arrest is not imminent, the department is also pursuing leads in that case.
