Bath Police Blotter: Knock Knock. Who's There? Police!

Fifty-three pot plants and pills were found in home of Granger Road resident.

Bath Police made a relatively minor arrest Saturday that paid unexpectedly large dividends.

Officers  were called to a residence in the 3700 block of Granger Road to investigate a man witnesses said seemed intoxicated and was knocking on various doors. According to the police report, two Bath Police officers arrived to find 27-year-old Michael L. Smith  in the yard. His car was in the driveway, but he had lost his keys.

Smith reportedly believed he was home.

Police cited Smith for disorderly conduct by intoxication, towed his car and drove him home, a few doors down Granger Road.

Upon arriving at 4317 Granger Road, Police attempted to verify Smith's address and helped him inside -- since he was locked out. By that time an officer had noticed a strong odor of marijuana and observed several marijuana plants and drug paraphernalia through an open window.

Smith gave his written consent for a search of the home.

Inside police found what they described as a growth operation consisting of 53 marijuana plants, assorted paraphernalia and 13 morphine pills. In addition to the disorderly conduct charge, Smith was charged with felony cultivation of marijuana and drug possession, plus one misdemeanor count of possessing drug paraphernalia. Smith was booked into the Summit County Jail and subsequently released on a $2,500 bond.
