Bath Police Ask Residents to Keep an Eye Out for Suspicious Vehicles

Couple in white truck believed to be casing homes for burglary

Bath Police have put out an alert to residents after a couple in a white pickup truck acted suspiciously July 17.

Police Chief Mike McNeely said a woman knocked on a door here, and could be seen peeking in the window before the resident answered.

When the resident opened the door, the woman said her truck had broken down, and they would be leaving it in front.

But when she went back to the small white pickup, which was being driven by a man, there was no engine trouble. They drove away immediately.

They had knocked on the door only to see if anyone was home, McNeely said.

"If they had gotten no answer, they were going to burglarize the house," he said.

Or, if they were bold enough, the woman might have kept the resident distracted at the front door while the male accomplice slipped into the back door and stole whatever he could get his hands on.

"That's happened several times," McNeely said.

The white pickup hasn't been spotted since that day on Holliston Drive.

But police put out a bulletin on their Facebook page asking residents to be vigilant about noticing and reporting cars that don't belong in their neighborhoods.

McNeely said that although no one has sighted the white truck, the department has received a number of other calls about vehicles that seem suspicious.

"It's created a bit of awareness, which is good," McNeely said.
