Bath Officer Defuses Tense Situation on the Road: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Bath Township Police Department

A potentially explosive situation ended calmly after an upset man drove off with a gun in his car.

Bath police were notified about 4:20 p.m. July 6 by the Medina County Sheriff's Office that a man involved in a domestic dispute had taken a handgun and, threatening suicide, driven off.

An officer spotted the man's car on Yellow Creek Road. He followed the vehicle without lights or siren while he waited for back-up to arrive.

But the man saw the cruiser behind him, stopped and got out of the car with his hands up, saying he was giving up.

He was taken into custody. Police found the handgun in his car.
