Bath Dive Team Members Aided in Norton Metro Park Drowning

A Norton woman is dead after her car went into a lake at Norton's Silver Creek Metro Park Tuesday afternoon, according to News Channel 5. Kathleen Henline was 62 years old.

Members from Dive Team were sent to the scene in the rescue attempt, said Bath fire Chief Walter Hower. Six members of the team were sent.

The Summit County Metro Park system released this statement Wednesday morning:

The Norton Police Department and Summit Metro Crash Team are investigating the death of a woman whose car went into the lake Tuesday, May 15, at Silver Creek Metro Park in southwest Summit County.

Metro Parks rangers and rescuers from Norton, Barberton, Copley, Bath, Wadsworth, Hudson, Silver Lake and other agencies responded when a park visitor called 911 and a park employee radioed the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, alerting them of a black Ford Mustang in the lake. Responders were unsuccessful in their attempts to rescue the driver.

Further details will be released as they become available.

The 895-acre park was closed Tuesday afternoon but has since been reopened.

According to the Beacon Journal, the woman's car went in around 1:30 p.m. and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:45 p.m. The autopsy was scheduled for today.
