2 Thefts, Big and Bigger: Police Blotter

The following information was provided by the Fairlawn Police Department

Employees at Walmart called police about 8 p.m. July 14 after a woman loaded a cart with $452 worth of merchandise and wheeled it out the door without paying.

She didn't get far -- she was stopped in the parking lot and escorted to the security office. She faces a theft charge.

Woman Scams Bank

First Merit Bank is out $1,600 after a woman opened a checking account with a fake check.

A report said the woman opened the account using a $1,928 check drawn on the Virginia Credit Union.

The next day, she returned to the bank and wrote two counter-checks for $128 and $1,628.

The bank later found out the original check was fraudulent.

Officials have the woman's Georgia driver's license, but no known address. There are several other warrants out for her arrest.
