Fascination with Fascinators

Fascinators were the new "it" hat at the Royal Wedding. But you don't have to be a Royal to wear one.

Watching the Royal Wedding made me appreciate how important a hat is to accomplishing a put-together look. No other accessory makes as powerful a statement as a great hat. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with other accessories. I like a great shoe as much as the next girl. But a hat directs people's attention to your face, not your feet.

Many of the wedding guests were sporting fascinators - those sassy little confections that perch toward the forehead at a jaunty angle. Irish milliner Philip Treacy created the more unusual hats and fascinators worn by the royals...hello Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. I've heard more people talk about the "big beige bow" than Princess Catherine's wedding dress.

The next time you're invited to an event that requires some sort of headwear - and you're dreading it because you don't really have the right hat - consider a fascinator. Just like a hat, it can be as steamlined or extravagant as its wearer. And it's guaranteed to make people smile and comment on how great you look. What's not to like about that?
