Twinsburg HS Student Honored on House Floor for Winning Soap Box Derby

Ohio House recognizes Allison Bates for her noteworthy achievement

It is always a great honor to recognize the accomplishments of young people in our communities. Sharing in their experiences gives us a glimpse into the futures, for they are the leaders of tomorrow.

That is why I was happy to recognize Allison Bates on the House floor earlier this week. Allison, a junior at Twinsburg High School, won the 2011 All-American Soap Box Derby Masters Division Championship in July.

Her story reminded me of my experiences working with my son on his soap box derby cars. Such experiences produce lasting memories and provide opportunities for parents to spend time with their kids.

It was a privilege meeting with Allison and her family. Her work ethic and sportsmanship are an example for all young people to follow.

I would like to congratulate Allison and wish her all the best in the future.
