My First Six Months at the Statehouse

First blog post of the 129th General Assembly by Copley native, Representative Lynn Slaby.

The Ohio House of Representatives has been focused on a number of things in this General Assembly, but our number one priority has been fixing the state’s economy.  One of the ways we have been able to do that is through the passage of JobsOhio (the first bill out of the House), which creates a lean, responsive mechanism to foster economic development in Ohio.

During my first six months in office, I was privileged to chair the House Criminal Justice Committee.  Among our most significant accomplishments was the passage of House Bill 86 which was just recently signed by the Governor and enacted into law.  This sweeping legislation aims to stem the growth of Ohio’s prison population in addition to streamlining court, jail and prison operations.  House Bill 86 addresses this problem through community programs that more effectively rehabilitates low-level offenders while reducing recidivism rates at a more affordable cost to taxpayers.

With the summer recess upon us, I look forward to seeing and speaking with the constituents of the 41st House District and learning how I can better serve you and the State of Ohio.
