Dear Andy,

A letter from an Air Force mom to her son Andy who is serving in Afghanistan.

Dear Andy,

Hello! I know it’s hot where you are, but baby, it’s HOT here this weekend. It was 99 degrees when I left work on Friday. The dogs are just lying around in the path of a fan!

At the end of this letter is the link to the Purple Heart Ceremony that I mentioned in my last letter. GySgt Robert Gilbert was the son of a Richfield police officer and was killed in action in Afghanistan last year.

When the Vietnam Memorial Wall came to Fairlawn this year, there was a service that is apparently repeated often with the traveling wall. There was a ceremony to lay a purple heart at the base of the wall in honor of lost troops.

Robert’s father was at the ceremony and was given the honor of receiving the Purple Heart on behalf of his son. The motorcycle riders were there for the whole service as well as the public, and it was very moving.

Not much more to report in this letter; I wanted to send you the pictures from the ceremony because I thought you might find it interesting. I have a couple of other videos that I want to send and explain to you, but that will be another day.  When I take pictures, I always try to take photos of things I think that you would like to see.  Right now, I almost wish I could take a picture of snow for you!

For now, I’m going to get things ready and turn in.

I love you.  And I miss you.

Mom

p.s. Stefanie said to tell you that she hasn't backed her car into the garage or the the chimney for at least two weeks. She keeps coming up with things that she wants me to tell you, and that was her contribution today.
