High Bridge Glens book signing at Sept. 20 Barnes & Noble Local Authors event

High Bridge Glens Book Signing Sept. 20 at Barnes & Noble

High Bridge Glens of Cuyahoga Falls will be one of 14 books featured at a local author exhibition and book signing to be held Friday, Sept. 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 4015 Medina Road, Akron.

The High Bridge Glens book, written by local historian and Cuyahoga Falls native Mary McClure, is a pictorial history of the park that made Cuyahoga Falls a Victorian-era travel sensation.

High Bridge Glens, whose entrance was located at Front and Prospect streets (next to what is today the Sheraton Suites), was once considered the "Niagara of Ohio." The park had one of the first roller coasters in the United States.

At the height of its popularity, the park attracted more than 8,000 visitors a day to Cuyahoga Falls - not bad considering the town's entire population was a little more than 2,000 residents at the time.

If you enjoy local history or want to know more about this early amusement park, which extended along what is today the Glens Trail in the Gorge Metro Park, stop by to see the book or chat with the author.
