RHS Band Hits High Notes As Band Camp Enters Week Three

Check in with the Marching Minutemen as they prepare for this year's football, competition and performance seasons.

"This one time at band camp..."

Many look at this quote and think of American Pie, but for band members both current and former, band camp means friendships forged, crazy tan lines, lots of laughs and lots of rewarding hard work. This is no different for this year's Marching Minutemen, who have been working on marching basics, memorizing music and preparing this year's contest show for seven hours every weekday for the past two weeks.

The Marching Minutemen kicked off this year's band camp with a new perspective, new techniques and new staff members. Jacob Taylor, a Revere High School and Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps alumus, returns to his alma mater as Visual Caption Head and brings with him a fresh way to rehearse, practice and compete. These "focused practices" may be grueling and repetitive, but are absolutely neccesary for the ever-increasing difficulty of competitive marching band. According to director Darren Lebeau, "We've never been this far along this early in the season."

Along with preparing for competition, the band has had its fair share of performance opportunities; marching in both Bath and Richfield's Community Day parades with several performances in the coming week (more information to come on those). Both parades went off without a hitch. Even the rain cooperated for the Richfield parade on Friday!

Overall, the Revere Marching Band is off to a fantastic start and ready to take the 2012 season by storm. Keep an eye out for the Marching Minutemen, because in this Olympic year, they're going for the gold!
