Your Guide to Zombie Walks and Haunted Houses in Northeast Ohio

Do you remember your first haunted house? Do you remember that feeling of anxiety, wondering when the next scary thing was going to jump out at you?

And of course, after it was over, you wanted to do it all over again, right?

Here's another holiday round up of events, this time it's Zombie Walks and Haunted Houses. Each of these events sounds scarier than the next.

Cuyahoga County 

HAUNTED HOUSE: Bloodview Haunted House in Broadview Heights features volunteer actors done up by some of the industry's best gore artists and is billed as an interactive experience. The "Gore House" is new and improved (I kind of don't really want to know how that happened), and I'm afraid to imagine what a "Baby Doll Island" looks like. Sponsored by the Broadview Heights Lions Club, all proceeds go to charity. Admission is $15, and an all-night pass is $20. They really want to scare you, so consider yourself warned. 

Summit County

HAUNTED HOUSE: Next on the list is the dreaded Haunted Schoolhouse and Lab, 1300 Triplett Blvd., Akron. This attraction has been around for 40 years and inspired many of today's haunted houses, according to their website. Open through Oct. 21, Fridays and Saturdays 7:30 p.m. to midnight and Sundays 7:30 to 10 p.m. Admission is $20 for the Schoolhouse and an additional $20 ticket is needed if you also want to get terrified in the Lab. 

Medina County

ZOMBIES: At Light Up the Living Dead at Mapleside Farms, 294 Pearl Rd., Brunswick, humans have to fight the zombies by shooting them with paintball guns. You have to check out their website, and watch the automatically-playing video. It explains it all. Fridays and Saturdays 4-midnight through Nov. 3. Admission $15 and it includes 100 paint balls. 

Lake County

ZOMBIES: Even Librarians can appreciate a good zombie invasion. Teens are invited to the Z-Day 2012 Celebration, which will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Mentor library's main branch.

ZOMBIES: As with other zombie attractions, the Forsaken Haunted House, 8200 Tyler Blvd., Mentor, has a back story that includes the origin of how the townsfolk got infected and became zombies. Hours are 7-midnight, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Nov. 3. Admission ranges from $20 to $30 and it is not recommended for children under 13. Oh, and no open-toed shoes -- exposed little piggies are too tempting for those zombies. 

Lorain County

HAUNTED HOUSE: At the Spooky Ranch at Rockin-R-Ranch, 19066 E. River Rd., Columbia Station, they specialize in scary. Check out the forest of fear. They are open all month, but check out hours and dates here. You can buy tickets online or at the gate. But it's worth checking out their website. Caution -- there's spooky music that automatically plays. 

Portage County

HAUNTED HOUSE: The Fortress of Fear Scream Park, 10268 Hewins Rd., Garrettsville, features two haunted houses and is not intended for small children or people who fear small spaces, they say. Open 8-midnight Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27 with a bonus night on Oct. 28. Admission is $13.
