Weekend Things: A Vietnam Memorial, a Kids Summit and More

Here's a list of events to help you plan your weekend.

Dances of Universal Peace -- So, maybe the work week has just turned you into a big ball of tension. Why not try Dances of Universal Peace at . The event has been described as spiritual poetry in motion, a blend of dance, walking meditation, music and chant. Free, donations accepted.

Dignity Wall -- The three-quarter scale replica of the travels the country, giving folks the chance to learn about the Vietnam war and honor those who served. Even if you can't make the trip to Washington D.C., most of us can make it to  where the memorial is open today (Aug. 19) through Sunday (Aug. 21). The event is free, but you can buy a commemorative T-shirt or raffle ticket for a Harley motorcycle. Proceeds benefit veterans charities.

Hamburger Festival -- Having a burger craving? The National Hamburger Festival comes to Lock 3 Park in Akron Saturday (noon to 11) and Sunday (noon to 7) there's even a "cheesiest couple" contest. Tickets: $5 per day.

Petie the Pony at  -- Here's a proverbial twofer... Petie, a shetland miniature pony, that is a popular therapy animal at Akron Children's Hospital, will make appearances at Robeks in Fairlawn on West Market (near Fedex) from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Ten percent of sales on those days will be donated to  Therapeutic Riding Center. So, you do a good deed, give the kids a healthy and get out of cooking a weekend meal. Wait, that's three-fer! Kids Festival -- Summit County government hosts the Second Annual Summit for Kids at the John S. Knight Center. Event includes free immunizations and free dental services for kids age 3 to 6, also free back-to-school physicals and free school supplies.  Kids get to meet Spiderman, Sesame Street characters and University of Akron mascot Zippy. The event is free.
