Shake your tail feathers at Dance Dance Party Party Akron

This week's Great Escape is an hour-long, women-only dance fest Friday in Highland Square.

Ever want to go dancing but there was just something missing? Maybe you don’t have someone to dance with, the energy to get dressed up or the courage to tackle the club scene. Then come to Dance Dance Party Party (DDPP) Akron and get your groove on.

This week’s Great Escape is an hour-long, women-only dance party 7:30 p.m. Friday at Martell School of Dance, 788 W. Market St. in the Highland Square neighborhood of Akron. DDPP #46 is the dance party’s two-year anniversary and dancers can extend the celebration with an official DDPP stop at Mary Coyle Ice Cream as soon as the dancin’ is done.

Juniper Sage, Square Records co-owner and one of the den mothers for DDPP Akron, describes it as a group of ladies -- strangers and friends -- who get together to dance in their comfy clothes. In her blog for DDPP, Sage says, “We don’t pose for each other and we don’t talk -- much. It’s really about dancing it out in a friendly environment.” There are no boys, no booze and no judgment, Sage says, so you can feel comfortable even if your best moves are left over from high school.
