Fairlawn Residents Will Get A Substantial Break on Natural Gas

Bulk rate includes senior citizens discount.

Fairlawn residents should keep an eye on their mailboxes for a deal on next year's gas bills.

Subscribers to the city's gas aggregation program will get a fixed rate of $6.193 cents per thousand cubic feet (Mcf) through an agreement with Direct Energy. The rate goes into effect in November.

"The price is 67 cents less than last year," Mayor William Roth said at Monday's council meeting.

The rate excludes taxes and fees, and has an additional discount for senior citizens 65 or older who own their homes.

The city works with Buckeye Energy Brokers to buy natural gas at a lower price for a group of residents.  Roth said he does not know how many people are involved in the program each year.
