5 Things To Do Jan. 7

Figure out your new e-reader, see a play or go skating at these events.

With more warmish weather on tap for today, it's a day to get out and do something. Here's five suggestions, gleaned from the events sections of Fairlawn-Bath, Cuyahoga Falls and Stow Patches:

  • Children in kindergarten to fifth- grade can practice their literacy skills by reading aloud to the 's doggie pals at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 3101 Smith Rd, Fairlawn. This is a great way for children to build their reading fluency and read-aloud confidence. Children not yet reading are also welcome to attend. The doggie’s human pal will read to the child. For details call the library at 330-666-4888.
  • Got an eReader for Christmas and still trying to figure out how to use the thing? Bring your device to the Stow-Monroe Falls Public Library ,3512 Darrow Road in Stow, any time between 9:30 and noon on either of those days and Reference Librarian Diana Parker will get you set up and ready to read. No need to register – it’s first-come-first-served. Information: (330) 688-3295 ext. 4.
  • Second- through fourth-graders can try their hands at different art techniques this winter at the Stow-Monroe Falls Public Library. Classes will explore the titles that we think could win the Caldecott Medal for distinguished children's book and try out the art styles and techniques they use. Each class will give kids a chance to try a new technique, from cut paper to stamping to collage. Snacks are provided. The free class is from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.; please register at the Children's Desk (330) 688-3295 ext. 5.
  • Stow Munroe Falls High School presents Insights: One Act Play Festival. The festival is a chance for senior students to gain an insight into how casting and directing a play works. Seniors choose one-act plays, or write their own, and cast/direct them based on their own rehearsal schedules. Tonight's play will be at 7 p.m. in the SMFHS Auditorium, 3227 Graham Rd, Stow.
  • Skate at the Cuyahoga Falls Ice Rink, 2085 Front St, Cuyahoga Falls, starting at noon. Admission is free to residents with the CFOne card. Non-resident admission is $3. Concessions are available in the Snack Shack at the rink.
