Fairlawn Bakery to Sell Vegan Treats for Japan Relief

Pure DeLite Cupcakes part of Global Bake Sale effort at VegiTerranean Saturday.

Rachel Hough bakes every day to fill Pure DeLite Cupcakes with treats, but she's been working a little extra to send three dozen cupcakes to the Akron Vegan Bake Sale for Japan. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Chrissie Hynde's VegiTerranean Restaurant.

Hough's contribution to the effort will be vegan snowball, snow caps and vegan chocolate delight cupcakes. Her treats are made with organic ingredients, such as whole wheat flour, but not every recipe is vegan, but she said she can adapt any recipe to make a vegan version. "We can do any of our cupcakes vegan," Hough said. "We're still deciding what the rest will be."

The bake sale will feature cookies, cakes and other baked goods, even dog treats. This year's organizers hope to raise $2,000. Money raised at the sale will be donated to Direct Relief and Japan Earthquake Animal Rescue and Support. Last year the group sponsored a bake sale for Haiti that raised over $1,600.
