Bites Nearby: Moe's Restaurant

Who knew Lolita had a hot stepsister...

If Michael Symon’s Lolita in Tremont had a hot stepsister, it would be Moe’s Restaurant in Cuyahoga Falls. At least that’s what many of Moe’s diehards will tell you. Fresh, creative and remarkable are the first three adjectives to describe the dishes rolled out at this Front Street fave. And the comparison makes sense: everything that owner Moe Schneider and Executive Chef Jared Kirby put their seal of approval on looks, smells and tastes like it stepped from the pages of Bon Appétit magazine.

Moe’s motto is everything from scratch—from the fresh fish and seafood specials, to main plates like garlic encrusted duck confit with orange gremolata, to the potato chips, breads and desserts. Moe’s goes eclectic with their entrees, rotating them with the seasons and highlighting them on a large blackboard inside the restaurant. They also have a tavern and accompanying menu, for those looking to scale back (diners can score tavern menu items in the dining room if they choose).

Just don’t let frou-frou thoughts creep in. The menu options are as substantial as they are pretty.

With two dozen “Moe-tinis” on the bar menu, Moe’s makes an inspired happy hour stop to boot. Where else in the Akron-Canton area can you score slow braised duck tacos with roasted poblano-corn salsa and lime crème fraiche, braised short rib sliders with cheddar and horseradish, or lobster pierogies? Try the dizzying Purple Haze Martini— three olives, grape vodka, blue curacao, grenadine and Sprite—or bring your own bottle of wine to enjoy with dinner. Moe’s has a $10 corkage fee, but if you have that special bottle, it’s worth every penny.

2385 Front St., Cuyahoga Falls. 330-928-6600 www.moesrestaurant.com. Open Monday—Saturday for lunch and dinner. $8-11 for sandwiches; $16 to $28 for entrees.
