Recommendations for Ravenous Readers

"What should I read now?"
As the Adult Services Librarian at the of the Akron-Summit County Library, those are two of the questions that I am most frequently asked. Patrons in the Fairlawn-Bath area LOVE to read, and it shows. Thanks to all of you, our circulation numbers are off the charts! Each of the past two years, almost a million items have been checked in and out of our branch, which is phenomenal! (One of these years, we will hit that million mark!)

Last year, I began to create a monthly list of "Hot Titles" for both books and DVD's. These are all titles that are available to place a hold on, but have not actually been released by the publisher yet. This has been a huge success, with patrons coming in at the beginning of each month and heading straight for the new lists.
While I am out and about at the library, whether I am at the circulation desk or out in the stacks doing maintenance on the collection, I love talking with people to find out what they like to read. Not only do I pick up great recommendations to enjoy on a lazy evening, but I also get a better feel for what the community enjoys as a whole so that I can tailor the collection around you. Personally, that has been one of my favorite parts of the job.

In August, we began what we call our "Staff Pick Fridays." Each of the past 3 Fridays, I have compiled a list of popular books that I felt there would be a strong interest in. Many of these books have not been released yet, but already many patrons in the Fairlawn-Bath area had started to put holds on these titles.

If you are interested in a particular title, all you will have to do is click on it, and you will be taken directly into our catalog where you can place a reserve on it. (You will need your library card to place a hold - if you do not have one, visit us and we will be happy to get you one! It is free, and is one of the most powerful cards you could carry with you!)
