Cooking Up Some Fun For October

Akron Beacon Journal Food Columnist will be at the Fairlawn-Bath Library on Monday, October 1st at 6:30pm to discuss her book Famous Chefs and Fabulous Recipes.

October is almost here and a chill is in the air.  Jackets are being worn and the leaves are changing colors and beginning to fall off their trees as another Fall is upon us.  For many of us, this time of year is a perfect opportunity to shift gears from cookouts to tasty temptations that warm your kitchens.  This October, we have two great programs to ease the transition from cooking out to cooking in.

At 6:30pm this coming Monday, October 1st, Lisa Abraham, Food Columnist for the Akron Beacon Journal, will be our special guest as she discusses her book Famous Chefs And Fabulous Recipes: Lessons Learned At One Of The Oldest Cooking Schools In America published by the University of Akron Press.  Hear about Lisa’s experiences interviewing chefs at the Western Reserve School of Cooking.  Her book contains some of the mouth watering recipes that she learned from the masters.  Want to learn how to bake a cake from White House chef Roland Mesnier?  Or knead some dough like master baker Ciril Hitz?  Her book contains these secrets and more.

At 6:30pm on Monday, October 15th, local favorite Chef Sarah Mentzer will be back for “Tacos, Chips and Salsa Ole!”  This program will feature some great recipes to make your dinner a fiesta!  Recipes will include Slow-Cooker Carne Guisada, Roasted Tomato Salsa, Jalapeno and Lime Refried Beans, and a variety of taco fillings as well as desserts to round out your meal.  Ole!  Space is limited for this program, so you must call to register 330-666-4888 in advance to register.

We hope to see you at these great programs.  Also, don’t forget about our great selection of cookbooks here at the branch.  We have some great new cookbooks, including some fun themed cookbooks like the Hunger Games Cookbook.  When you come in for the programs, stop in and browse our collection.  You never know what you will find.
