October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and to celebrate, we're turning this week's Spotify playlist pink.
Are you a breast cancer survivor? What song kept you motivated through your treatments?
Maybe you lost someone to breast cancer? Do you have an inspirational song to remember your loved one?
We want you to tell us your favorite inspirational song, and we'll create a Spotify playlist that will appear on the site on Friday morning.
If you know a survivor of breast cancer, or if you've lost someone to it, leave a message in her honor or in her memory in the comments. We'll also share your thoughts when we run the playlist.
Now that Pinktober is officially upon us. Please remember to "think before you pink". First, know that sometimes little to no money goes towards breast cancer when a company places a pink ribbon on their product. There is no regulation of the ribbon and anyone can use it for advertising purposes. The pink is there for a reason, and it isn't just to show you what a nice company they are for donating to a good cause. Cause based marketing makes them $$$. Second, look at what organization your money is going to. Some organizations (I'm looking at you Komen!) spend over half of their money on awareness education, fundraising and administrative costs. I don't know about you, but I think we are pretty aware of breast cancer. More money needs to be spent finding a CURE! Third, check the ingredients of the product and the practices of the company. Make sure the company isn't actually contributing to the disease with the use of toxins. Thank you all for reading this.
