Student from Bath Performs with Cleveland Jazz Orchestra

Fifth-grader gets unique opportunity

Elena Flauto, a fifth-grader at Bath Elementary School, was selected to perform with the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra at the Hudson Bandstand Summer Music Festival Aug. 11.

Elena, a student of Helen Welch at the Fairlawn and Hudson Schools of Music, is the daughter of Drs. Ron Flauto and Angie Georgkopoulos. 

The CJO was joined by Helen Welch, critically acclaimed vocalist and vocal coach at the Fairlawn and Hudson Schools of Music, for the concert at the Gazebo Green.

Elena called the opportunity "a dream come true."

"I am truly thrilled! I am so thankful for all that the schools do to provide amazing opportunities to its students, like me, who dream of singing with gifted, professional musicians," she said in a news release.

The Cleveland Jazz Orchestra regularly conducts education and community outreach initiatives meant to introduce students to jazz with an exciting, hands-on experience. 

The addition of a student performer is a first for the Gazebo Green performance.
